Catherine Kobayashi
News Anchor, Multimedia Journalist
CK
I'm a journalist for NHK World based in New York City. Before moving to New York in 2017, I worked in Tokyo as the main anchor for Newsline, NHK World’s flagship program. I was responsible for researching, making editorial decisions, and reporting on special events, including Presidential inaugurations in Washington, D.C. and elections in Japan from ruling party headquarters.
In March 2011, my team worked tirelessly to report on the Great East Japan Earthquake and the nuclear emergency in Fukushima. I frequently visited northeastern Japan to report on the Fukushima plant decommissioning as well as post-earthquake rebuilding efforts. In 2012, my team's work garnered critical acclaim and NHK won an Emmy Award for the emergency coverage and The Producer of the Year Award from American Public Television. We were also nominated for an Emmy for our international digital services.
In addition to my television career, I have extensive experience as a radio presenter. I'm a multimedia journalist and certified video editor working professionally using AVID Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro.
